local team Local Manager

at Live-in For Literacy in Sudbury, ON

DREAM is a student led University club that started at Queen’s University 4 years ago and have expanded into a national event for the past two years. DREAM raises money to build schools and libraries in developing countries. Since 2005, we have raised $70,000 to build 13 libraries in Nepal and India, and a computer lab in Cambodia.

Laurentian University was a partnering university in 2007. During that year, the Laurentian team raised over $3000 to our overall national total.

This year, our national goal is to raise $25,000 to build one library and publish 10,000 local language books in India.

You can help us by joining our team as the Local Manager for Laurentian.

Title: Local Manager

Reports to: University Liaison for Laurentian (Sarwat Jalal)

Your main responsibilities would include:

  • Coordinate the Live-in for Literacy event at your university
  • Communicate with the Queen’s University Liaison on a regular basis for support and guidance
  • Manage timelines and budget. Create and execute project work plans (includes timelines, budget, and quality) and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements
  • Make sure team members get reasonable schedules and appropriate priorities.
  • Work with staff to make sure projects proceed smoothly.

History and Results

2009: Queen’s University, University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, McMaster University, Concordia University, Memorial University. Raised $20,000 to build 4 libraries in India.

2008: Queen’s University, Memorial University, Laurentian University, and University of British Columbia. Raised $20,000 to build 5 libraries in Nepal.

2007: Stauffer Library, Queen’s University, raised $11,000 towards 3 libraries in Nepal.

2006: Stauffer Library, Queen’s University, raised $6,000 towards a computer lab in Cambodia.
