local team Public Relations Coordinator

at Live-in For Literacy in Mississauga, ON

DREAM is a student led University club that started at Queen’s University 4 years ago and have expanded into a national event for the past two years. DREAM raises money to build schools and libraries in developing countries. Since 2005, we have raised $70,000 to build 13 libraries in Nepal and India, and a computer lab in Cambodia.

The University of Toronto Mississauga Campus has recently joined us for the upcoming 2010 event. This year, our national goal is to raise $25,000 to build one library and publish 10,000 local language books in India.

You will represent the local U of T Mississauga team and are responsible for its public image. Your three major responsibilities are:
1) Generating media coverage
2) Collecting all media reports and exposures that we receive, by searching online for publications featuring Live-in for Literacy each day of the 7 day Live-in event.
3) Promoting the event at your campus leading to the event. You are responsible for representing DREAM as an organization with original ideas, while maintaining a professional image.

Reports to: Local Manager

Your main responsibilities would include:

  • Attend weekly meetings for the U of T Mississauga Team and keep updated with the progress of various projects and events
  • Generate media coverage for Live-in for Literacy by contacting local media outlets and communicating with various local media, handling press releases, etc.
  • Collect and report all media exposures of DREAM to the local manager
  • Promote Live-in for Literacy event across the U of T Mississauga Campus throughout the year leading to our event
  • Spend time on site at the Live-in event to promote our cause
  • Assist internal operations to help facilitate move-in and move-out days during Live-in
  • Fill in for the campers when they have classes

History and Results

2009: Queen’s University, University of Toronto St. George, University of British Columbia, McMaster University, Concordia University, Memorial University. Raised $20,000 to build 4 libraries in India.

2008: Queen’s University, Memorial University, Laurentian University, and University of British Columbia. Raised $20,000 to build 5 libraries in Nepal.

2007: Stauffer Library, Queen’s University, raised $11,000 towards 3 libraries in Nepal.

2006: Stauffer Library, Queen’s University, raised $6,000 towards a computer lab in Cambodia.
